100 Things to Know if You Plan to Carry a Gun™
Full course: In-person (8-18 hours due to scalability and the requirements of your state)
Add-on: Online or in-person (3-4 hours)
This training is for anyone who knows anywhere between zero and 99 things about carrying a gun. It is a valuable continuation of the Introduction to Pistol Handling™ course or any other basic handgun course, but it can also stand alone to prepare students to be armed. Although it is relatively short compared to other CCW classes, it is dense, and students complete the course much more prepared and with the tools they need to continue their learning.
Topics covered include:
Mindset and lifestyle of an armed person
Applying for a permit to carry a concealed firearm
Four Rules of Firearm Safety and how we use them
Safe storage of firearms in the home and the vehicle
Overview of laws (useful websites, finding laws, U.S. vs. State laws)
Traveling across state lines (reciprocity, CA, IL, NY, NJ, other tailored information)
Prohibited places to carry
Robust firearm law (U.S. Codes, state statutes, local ordinances, civil suits)
Robust use of force considerations, laws, rulings, ethics
Situational awareness (OODA, Cooper's Colors)
Deadly force triangle and use of force continuum
Other necessary tools (spray, light, medical)
Firearm, caliber, and ammunition choices with rationale
Carry methods and locations
Equipment (firearm, holster, belt, aftermarket customizations, light)
Tactics (drawing, movement, mag changes, use of light)
Before the defensive encounter (mindset, insurance, tactics, deescalation)
During the defensive encounter (commands, draw, retention, shooting to stop)
After the defensive encounter (commands, witnesses, talking to police, arrest, criminal charges, civil suits, counseling)
The need for further professional training (firearms, martial arts, flashlight, retention, medical, conflict resolution)
